Screens keep the heat out without taking away your view. The fabric runs in zip guides, so it does not flap and cannot blow out.
Sun protection works best on the outside: the fabric stops the heat before it comes through the glass. A screen with zip guides stays taut in wind too, whereas an ordinary drop-arm awning has to come in. And you keep the view: the fabric is see-through from inside out, not the other way round.
Where the screen goes depends on where the sun comes from and what you want: coolness, shade or privacy.
The usual starting point: one screen across the full width of the front. Keeps the low afternoon and evening sun out and gives privacy straight away.
For the side where the morning or evening sun comes in, or where you want to sit out of the neighbours' view. Often a narrower screen beside a sliding wall.
Under or above the roof sheet, across the full depth. The best solution with a south-facing glass roof: the heat does not even get through.
With a crank, or electrically with a remote control, wall switch or through your phone.
From light grey to anthracite. Dark fabric gives the best view out, light fabric reflects more heat.
In the same RAL colour as your veranda, so the screen disappears against the structure when it is rolled up.
Made to measure up to about 5 metres wide per screen. Wider openings we do in two parts.
Thanks to the zip guides the fabric stays taut up to force 6. Above that you roll it up.
Optionally with a sun and wind sensor: the screen lowers when the sun is on it and rolls up when the wind gets up.
The fabric is glass fibre with a PVC coating: strong, colourfast and it does not stretch. It runs in a zip on both sides, and that zip is what makes the difference — it holds the fabric taut instead of flapping, even in wind. The cassette it rolls into is as wide as your profile, so when the screen is up you barely see it.
Three things set the price: the width of the screen, the operation and the fabric. Manual with a crank is the cheapest; a motor with remote control costs more but is worth considering on anything over three metres. A sun and wind sensor is a separate option.
Take the screens along with your veranda and the guides disappear into the structure, with no separate installation cost for them. Fitting them later is always possible, but costs a little more.
External sun protection stops the heat before it comes through the glass. Under a south-facing glass roof that works out at five to eight degrees on a hot afternoon — enough to be the difference between staying away and staying put. Sun protection on the inside, such as a curtain, does not do that: by then the heat is already in.
You can always add screens later — the profiles are prepared for them. Take them straight away and the guides disappear into the structure, out of sight. Fitted afterwards, the guide sits against the post, which looks slightly less clean but works exactly as well.
Wipe the fabric down once a year with lukewarm water and a soft brush. Always roll it up dry: fabric left damp will stain over time. Keep the zip running smoothly with a little silicone spray.
Screens sit tightest when they go into the structure straight away.
Would you rather control the sun with the roof itself? Turn the louvres closed and it is shade.
A screen against the sun, a sliding wall against the wind. Together they let you use your terrace nearly all year.
Sun protection is the part people put off longest and afterwards say they should have done straight away. Take it along with your veranda and the guides disappear into the structure and you pay no separate installation. Fitting it later is always possible — the guide then sits against the post, which looks slightly less clean but works exactly as well.

View all questionsYes, because the fabric runs in zip guides it stays taut up to about force 6. Above that you roll it up — with the wind sensor that happens by itself.
From inside out yes, from outside in hardly at all as long as it is lighter outside than in. Dark fabric gives the best view through.
Yes. The guides then sit against the posts instead of inside them. Send a photo and the measurements and we will tell you what is possible.
Manual is cheaper and trouble-free. Electric is nicer if you use the screen daily or if it is wider than three metres. For a roof screen we always recommend electric.
For an electric screen yes, an ordinary 230V connection is enough. Make sure there is a connection point near the cassette, or have an electrician add one.
Under a south-facing glass roof, external sun protection soon makes five to eight degrees' difference on a hot afternoon. Sun protection on the inside does not, because by then the heat is already in.
